Talks on arms control issues were held between US and Chinese representatives in Washington on Monday. This was announced by Ministry of External Affairs Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel, writes RIA News.
Patel noted that Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Arms Control, Verification and Compliance Mallory Stewart, along with the U.S. Government’s interagency team, received Sun Xiaobo, Director of the Arms Control Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the State Department.
The State Department spokesman also emphasized that the United States urges China to participate in discussions on issues related to arms control and strategic risk reduction. Earlier, a source in the Chinese government told RIA Novosti that the talks scheduled for Monday include an exchange of views on a wide range of issues, including progress in the implementation of international agreements in this area.
These negotiations are the first round of dialogue between the parties in this field since the administration of US President Barack Obama.
