The explosion that occurred in the house of Gennady Chestyakov, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), may be the result of sabotage. This was reported by local publication Espresso, citing sources.
According to media reports, the major returned home in the evening with gifts in honor of his birthday. However, when he opened one of the boxes, an explosion occurred.
Journalists did not rule out the possibility that in addition to the explosive, there might also be a glass and a bottle of alcohol in the box. As a result of the explosion, Chistyakov was mortally injured, and his 13-year-old son was also injured.
Additionally, one more member of the major’s family was injured. However, his identity has not been disclosed yet.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny personally confirmed the death of his assistant. No other details about the incident have been released at this time.
