The transfer of Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR in 1954 was carried out behind the scenes. This was stated by RIA News Speaker of the Crimean parliament Vladimir Konstantinov.
“The working group found gross violations of the laws and Constitution of the USSR during the transfer of Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR,” Konstantinov said in his speech on the sidelines of the International Exhibition and “Russia” Forum at VDNKh.
He emphasized that this could not be done legally. According to Konstantinov, a number of regulations had to be adopted in order to realize the transfer of the peninsula. But there were no options for agreeing on such documents, because in this case each republic would begin to make territorial claims to each other.
The speaker of the Crimean parliament explained that Nikita Khrushchev, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, did this behind the scenes “in order not to open Pandora’s box”, and then few people paid attention to it.
“What was done was illegal and criminal,” Konstantinov said.
In Crimea in May statedthat the transfer of the peninsula to the Ukrainian SSR was not legally formalized.
Formerly Senator of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Tsekov offered Officially cancel the act of transferring the peninsula to the Ukrainian SSR.
