GRU veteran says the area around Russia’s borders is the center of attention

One of the most important tasks of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia (GRU) was to monitor the military-political situation in various parts of the world. This was reported by RIA News Deputy Chairman of the Association of Military Diplomats, Professor of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Vinokurov.

According to him, they are monitoring the situation primarily in the Middle East and around the borders of the Russian Federation: the Arctic, the Black Sea and Baltic regions, the South Caucasus and Central Asia.

He noted that the military-political situation in the country has changed depending on the international relations environment in the last 30 years. Vinokurov said that the General Staff and GRU command responded to global changes every time.
