When the basis for a film is pre-existing material, it is often stimulating to try to understand how the adaptation was made, the reasons for those responsible’s decisions, and the level of effectiveness. The long-awaited ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ film adaptation of the video game of the same name, It is so incoherent at every level that it does not even invite us to compare or consider the transition from one language to another (in this case, the transition from video games to cinema).
There are many problems at the heart of this movie, which is about an abandoned pizzeria where bad things happen. First, its It is not clear to whom it is directed. The difficulties and doubts that director Emma Tammi experienced regarding the age limit of her film being PG-13 draw attention. It’s very frustrating to realize how the film’s horror potential is constantly held back. Another important problem is the construction of the story. It was just badly said.. ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ is confusing, repetitive and at times inconsistent (everything to do with the cop character). And best of all, the nightmare’s setting (that abandoned pizzeria frozen in time) and animatronics (very nice, from Creature Shop, the special and visual effects company founded by Jim Henson) are completely wasted.
