In Moscow, two schoolgirls, aged 12 and 14, had their fingers severed after their rings were re-sewn. Information about this appeared at: Website of the children’s city clinical hospital named after NF. Filatova.
Both schoolgirls were taken to the children’s hospital almost at the same time. A 12-year-old girl had her finger amputated when she jumped over a fence and caught her ring on a metal bar. A 14-year-old female student was also injured by the hoop, but there was a basketball hoop instead of a fence.
According to Alexander Alexandrov, head of the microsurgery department, ring rupture of the finger is a very common injury.
“In this case, the finger is “removed” like a glove. The operation is technically complex and is performed in three stages. First, with the help of metal clamps, the bone structures and tendons of the flexor and extensor muscles of the finger are connected, followed by the microsurgical stage, during which the veins and arteries are sutured, and at the third, final stage, the damaged nerves are removed. Muscle structure and skin are interconnected,” said Alexandrov.
Both female students are currently in the same ward and recovering. They have a long rehabilitation process ahead of them.
