Japan solves tourist oversupply problem

Japan’s Ministry of Tourism announced the plan due to the large number of foreign tourists visiting the country in recent years. It was reported that priority measures will be taken to strengthen the transportation infrastructure, especially the bus and taxi fleet is planned to be increased. The plan outlines the efforts of 11 “model” tourism destinations, such as Ise-Shima in Mie Prefecture and eastern Hokkaido.

Tourist flow from Russia to Japan decreased 11.5 times in 2022. As ATOR noted, 10,400 people entered Japan from Russia in 12 months in 2022. Thus, the total annual result of Russian tourist flows to Japan in 2022 was 11.5 times less than in 2019.
