Whooping cough is a dangerous infectious disease that is difficult to distinguish from a cold in the early stages. In an interview with Life on this subject reported Roman Ivanov, physician specialist of the Hemotest laboratory. According to him, the risk of infection in close contact with the patient is over 80 percent.

“The problem with diagnosing whooping cough is that without analysis it is often impossible to distinguish the initial stage from acute respiratory infections or influenza. But it is at the beginning of the disease that treatment is most effective,” said Ivanov.

He noted that preschool children suffer most frequently and most severely from whooping cough. At first, the person feels a slight cough, runny nose and watery eyes. As the disease progresses, symptoms intensify – a heavy, barking cough accompanied by sputum production is sometimes difficult to stop. The disease lasted about seven weeks, the specialist said.

He says the best measure to prevent whooping cough is timely vaccination. The doctor stated that the vaccine cannot provide 100 percent protection, but the disease will pass much more easily and the risk of complications will be less.

Pediatrician Maria Vorotyntseva before this warnedIt is stated that whooping cough is dangerous due to bacterial complications such as bronchitis, pneumonia, pleurisy and otitis media. Additionally, in rare cases, prolonged coughing fits can cause brain damage due to lack of oxygen, he said.

Russians before saidWhether the mask can protect against coronavirus and flu.
