The claim that stroke is only a disease of the elderly is not true. In this respect stated Maxim Sutormin, Head of the Neurology and Rehabilitation Service of Vladimirsky MONIKI, in an interview with the publication “360”.
“Statistics show that the disease is becoming younger and not only older people, but also patients aged 30-40 are susceptible to stroke,” the neurologist emphasized.
The doctor also warned that it was useless to provide emergency care at home to the stroke patient and warned him to seek medical help at the first signs of the disease.
Neurologist Sutormin reminded that it is important to take time to reach doctors during the so-called “golden hour”, which is the first four and a half hours after a stroke.
“If you meet them by calling the ambulance in time, the patient can avoid serious consequences,” the specialist said.
Doctors warned patients, especially those prone to hereditary diseases, to undergo regular medical examinations and also monitor their cholesterol levels. He reminded that patients with cardiovascular diseases and diabetes are especially at risk for stroke.
