Video calls using Zoom and other apps may increase people’s dissatisfaction with their appearance, scientists from the University of Colorado said. In this respect reports Daily mail.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, demand for their services has increased by 150% since 2019. Often people want to undergo facial plastic surgery. Many experts attribute the increasing popularity of such transactions to the use of video calling applications.

Psychiatrist Emily Kendidinger explained that people focus too much on their faces during a video meeting and tend to notice imaginary imperfections. Women spend particularly long periods of time looking at their own images on the screen.

Also, due to the nature of the program or poor connection quality, some people may feel that everyone in the video chat is looking at them to evaluate their appearance. This feeling can cause anxiety and restlessness.

Experts noted that during a video call, you should try to distract yourself from analyzing your appearance and focus on what other people are saying. You should also not look closely at individual parts of your interlocutors’ faces – you need to perceive the person’s image as a whole.
