Russia’s permanent representative Vasily Nebenzya, in his statement at the UN Security Council meeting, said that those responsible for the beating and detention of Russian employee of the UN Mission in Kosovo, Mikhail Krasnoshchekov, have not yet been brought to justice. Mikhail Krasnoshchekov, an employee of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), was detained and severely beaten in Serbian municipalities in northern Kosovo on 28 May 2019. Fractures occurred in his cheekbone and upper jaw. He also had diplomatic immunity.
Vasily Nebenzya emphasized that the UN Mission in Kosovo must continue its work while preserving its personnel and financial potential. He noted that the Kosovo Albanians involved in the detention and infliction of grievous bodily harm on Mikhail Krasnoshchekov on May 28, 2019 have not yet been brought to justice. Nebenzya also another employee of the UN Mission, AN Antonov, was declared persona non grata by the unlawful decision of regional “authorities” on December 31, 2021. He warned that without an adequate response, similar actions against UN personnel in other parts of the world would only be a matter of time.
