Scientists from the City University of Hong Kong found that probiotics found in yoghurt, cheese and sauerkraut stabilize blood pressure. In this respect reports Daily mail.

Probiotics are microorganisms that can restore the normal microflora of organs and at the same time have a detrimental effect on pathogenic bacteria. Probiotics normally replenish and benefit the human microflora.

To test whether probiotics are effective in combating hypertension, researchers conducted a 16-week experiment on laboratory mice. Rodents in the first group drank water rich in fructose (sugar), which increased their blood pressure. Mice in the second group were given probiotic Bifidobacterium lactis and sweetened water. The third group consumed water and another probiotic, Lactobacillus rhamnosus. The mice in the fourth group remained on their normal diet.

The results showed that blood pressure levels of mice given probiotics were 20% lower than rodents that drank fructose water alone. Bifidobacterium lactis and Lactobacillus rhamnosus are found in foods such as milk, cheese, tofu and sauerkraut.

Scientists now plan to conduct additional studies in humans to prove the effectiveness of fermented milk and fermented foods in combating hypertension.
