Speakers at the World Health Summit (WHS) warned that the world is not protected against a new pandemic like Covid-19. To prevent a new global epidemic, cooperation between countries and a holistic approach based on scientific research, including better protection of animals, are needed. At the annual meeting of WHS in Berlin, the president of the organization, Axel Pries, emphasized that the world’s level of preparedness for a new epidemic is low and that a new epidemic could be even worse than Covid-19.
There was also a discussion regarding the Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response Agreement, which is currently being negotiated between member countries of the World Health Organization. WHO chief lawyer Stephen Solon believes the agreement can be completed by May 2024.”
The meeting concluded that preventing the epidemic will require global cooperation on an unprecedented scale. Science-based measures, including animal and environmental protection, are necessary to prevent the transmission of pathogens from animals to humans.
