Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolaku said that Ukrainian officials will now officially recognize the Moldovan language as Romanian. He made a statement on the issue during his visit to Ukraine. TASS.

According to Ciolacu, this decision was taken at a joint meeting of the Romanian and Ukrainian governments.

“From now on, only Romanian will be recognized as the sole official language,” he said.

The Romanian Prime Minister stated that a number of legal steps still need to be taken, including informing the European Council on this issue.

He also stated that the Moldovan language is “an invention of the Russian Federation.” The politician added that the Moldovan language was “crossed out” after the decision of the Ukrainian authorities.

Previously Çolaku statedIt was stated that an agreement was reached with Kiev regarding the rights of the Romanian national minority living in Ukraine.

Before that, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova statedthat Moldovan, as the modern state language, serves as a badge of self-identification for Moldovan citizens.

He noted that currently the Moldovan language is paradoxically officially preserved only in Transnistria.
