Alicante company TM Grupo Inmobiliario, in collaboration with Cruz y Roja and the Hippocampus Association, has launched a new national project called “Responsible Mediterranean” to defend the Mediterranean and its biodiversity. This project, which will be developed along the Mediterranean Arc over the next two years, aims to mobilize more than 2,500 people through the implementation of different initiatives structured in the research, awareness and action phases.
In the first stage, waste on beaches and seas will be monitored according to the protocol of the Ministry of Ecological Transformation (MITECO). With this activity, nearly a hundred dives will be carried out to count marine life along the Mediterranean Arc. The results of these activities will be announced at an event where the current situation and the most effective awareness-raising and action recommendations will be discussed to eliminate waste, protect the coastline and care for the surrounding marine life.
Awareness
To raise awareness and prevent this situation, for children, young people and civil society in general, the marine litter problem, the role of the oceans and their protection, recycling, Responsible consumption and circular economy.
In this sense, according to the results of the event, awareness-raising materials will be prepared and days with underwater excursions will be organized for educational purposes about the fauna and flora of the Mediterranean.
Action and participation
The final phase of the project will focus on the organization of different waste collection, separation and recycling actions on various beaches along the Mediterranean Arc, with the participation of TM, Red Cross and Hippocampus interest groups.
Likewise, the project includes a very significant lead cleanup intervention corresponding to the Plumbum project, a pioneering project to delead the seabed.
The signing ceremony of the project took place on October 17 at 12.30 at the Red Cross headquarters in Madrid. They attended the event on behalf of three institutions.
