A cargo ship heading from Astrakhan to Iran ran aground in the Volga-Caspian Sea Shipping Canal (VKMSK). This has been reported telegram channel Main Directorate of Medical Emergency Service of Astrakhan Region of Russia.
The description indicates that we are talking about the bulk carrier Volgo-Balt-232. According to the ministry, the ship ran aground at the 146th kilometer of the specified shipping channel.
The report states, “Dry cargo ship Volgo-Balt-232, which was sailing along the route of Astrakhan port, the Caspian port of the Islamic Republic of Iran, ran aground.”
The ministry also added that the ship was carrying corn. In the statement, it was stated that there were 2,947 tons of this cereal plant on the ship.
According to the information received, the incident did not affect the movement of ships in VKMSK waters in any way. In addition, the Regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergencies of the Russian Federation stated that the crew of Volgo-Balt-232 did not need medical care and had a 10-day food supply.
The company that currently owns the ship is deciding whether to refloat it. Ministry representatives said that the possibility of using tugboats was being investigated.
