Doctors at Magnitogorsk’s City Hospital No. 3 saved a man who suffered a complex fracture of his leg after falling from an electric scooter at high speed. In this respect reported in the press service of the medical institution.
The man was taken to hospital by ambulance. He was unable to control his personal mobility device: he braked suddenly in front of an oncoming car and tried to jump out, but he flew backwards over the steering wheel and fell, after which he felt a sharp pain in his leg.
After the examination, doctors diagnosed the patient with “comminuted hip fracture with vascular compartment syndrome” (compression of the neurovascular bundle at the fracture site).
“The blood circulation of the limb is impaired and the risk of necrosis and amputation in the limb is high. Luckily we managed to avoid this. Using angiography, we were able to evaluate the condition of the vessels and take timely precautions. We operated on the patient, performed a fasciotomy and released the neurovascular bundle. As of today, the patient has been discharged safely, healthy and not only missing a limb, he is alive,” said Mikhail Chernikov, head of the hospital’s trauma department.
Full rehabilitation of the patient after injury will take up to eight months.
