One in three Russians working in the IT profession (34%) believe that the optimal duration of work in one place is up to five years. This is shown by a study conducted by Jet Infosystems and hh.ru, the results of which were reviewed by socialbites.ca.

However, only 15% of IT professionals have been with their current company for three to five years. Almost one in four (23%) are prepared to stay in one place for up to three years. 10% of the participants choose the “more than 10 years” option. The rarest response was “Up to a year” (2%).

The study also identified factors that are important for long-term employment in a company. The most impactful of these were opportunities for career advancement and income growth; this was confirmed by over 51% of survey respondents. Other important reasons are the presence of interesting tasks and projects (41%), balance between personal life and work (38%), a healthy atmosphere in the team (38%), stable salary payments and bonuses (33%), and at company expense. training and further education opportunity (24%). Respondents least frequently noted the presence of a good social package (7%) and an interesting corporate life (4%).

At the same time, 68% of respondents said that the personality and competencies of the team leader directly affect the willingness to change employer. This is especially common among product managers (38%) and technical support specialists (30%).

At the same time, 57% of respondents believe that recognition of their achievements has a positive impact on tenure at a company and commitment to the employer.

“As the results of the research show, the common claim that IT professionals are only interested in money is not entirely true. In order for an employee to work in a company for a long time, many factors must be taken into account in addition to the level of income: from the presence of interesting projects for him and a healthy atmosphere in the team depends on the competence of his manager and recognition of his merits. As we see, the social package is not a retention factor. This is most likely because employees find the same conditions, plus or minus, when changing jobs,” added Olga Kovardakova.
