The Synod appointed Metropolitan Tikhon (Shevkunov) as the new head of the Crimean Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Church. reports Press service of the Russian Orthodox Church.
“The Right Priest of Simferopol and Crimea, head of the Metropolitan of Crimea, appointed Tikhon, Metropolitan of Pskov and Porkhov, with his release from the administration of the Pskov Metropolis, from the post of holy archimandrite and abbot of the Assumption Pskov-Pechersky Monastery. <…> and from the position of Holy Archimandrite of the Annunciation Nikandrovsky Monastery,” the statement reads.
Metropolitan of Simferopol and Crimea Lazar, who previously held this position, retired.
Instead of Tikhon, the Metropolitan of Pskov will be headed by Yuryev Bishop Arseny, vicar of the Novgorod diocese, who was also appointed abbot of the Pskov-Pechersky Monastery.
Last June, the Canköy, Simferopol and Feodosia dioceses of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church were directly subordinated to Patriarch Kirill and united as the Crimean Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Church.
