Scientists from Auburn University (USA) found that happy husbands discuss financial problems more openly and effectively. The results of the research were published in the journal Journal of Social and Personal Relationships.
Some psychologists argue that financial behaviors such as budgeting, saving, and spending habits have a significant impact on marital satisfaction. Others argue that effective financial communication between partners plays an important role in maintaining a happy marriage.
The study found that husbands’ marital satisfaction tended to predict improved financial communication, while wives’ financial behaviors were more likely to predict improved financial communication.
The authors analyzed data from other studies involving approximately 1,220 couples. They all provided demographic information and also completed various surveys about financial aspects of the relationship and marital satisfaction.
The results did not confirm that couples’ financial communication affected their marital satisfaction. But it turns out that happy husbands tend to discuss financial matters more openly and effectively with their wives. Similarly, for spouses, marital satisfaction predicts changes in financial behavior.
