Experts from the Krasnoyarsk State Agricultural University have developed new varieties of potatoes and soybeans that are best adapted to Siberian conditions. This is reported by the scientific and educational center “Yenisei Siberia”. RIA News.

According to scientists, spring frosts and drought are the main problems for the agricultural sector in Siberia and can lead to the death of a significant part of plants and a sharp decrease in the yield of those that survive.

Experts managed to create two varieties of potatoes and two types of soybeans adapted to the Siberian climate. All recommended varieties have a low germination rate. Therefore, they survive frosts and droughts underground and produce upper parts only when stable heat occurs.

The article states that the use of new varieties can make agricultural production more sustainable and efficient in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and other regions with a sharply continental climate.
