US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that an incident occurred in the Persian Gulf involving ships belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and a US military helicopter. IRGC ships repeatedly directed laser beams at the AH-1Z Viper helicopter of the 26th U.S. Marine Expeditionary Unit. While there was no damage to the plane, there was no loss of life.
Central Command says such actions by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard pose a threat to the lives of US and allied military personnel and calls for an immediate end to such actions.
This is not the first incident between Iran and the USA in the Persian Gulf. American ships often remain close to Iranian maritime borders, which Iran sometimes believes violate its territorial waters. In such cases, Iranian warships often intercept American ships, sometimes approaching them and creating psychological pressure on the crew. Previously, the USA also announced that the Iranian army intervened in commercial ships.
Previously in Iran organized Regular patrols to monitor the wearing of headscarves.
