Scientists from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom found that young schoolchildren’s academic performance is higher when their fathers are engaged in teaching. It turns out that children who regularly play games, read books and draw pictures with their fathers are academically smarter than their peers. In this respect reports MedicalXpress.
4966 families participated in the research. Researchers collected data on children’s academic performance by analyzing school exams and concluded that first graders with good grades have attentive fathers who involve children in educational games, reading and music lessons from the age of three. It has also been found that father involvement in five-year-old children’s learning contributes to good academic performance at age seven. In addition, regardless of the child’s gender, ethnicity and family income level, learning with the father has a positive effect on academic success.
The researchers also added that maternal involvement has a greater impact on a child’s emotional and social behavior than on their educational achievement.
