Scientists from Belgorod State University, as part of a research team, discovered a link between the structure of the gene encoding the heat shock protein and complications of ischemic stroke. Finding this link will help predict how severe a stroke will be and how long recovery will take, researchers say. The results of scientists’ research shared It’s in the genes.

Ischemic stroke is a condition in which blood circulation to the brain is impaired, causing tissue damage. The cause of the development of this pathology in humans can be both external factors and genetic characteristics. During ischemic stroke, heat shock proteins come into play and help the proteins in the brain tissue achieve the desired geometric structure and prevent them from sticking together.

The researchers took DNA samples from patients diagnosed with ischemic stroke and healthy subjects and then examined differences in the HSPA8 gene, which codes for the HSP70 protein. It turns out that there is a correlation between the nucleotide sequence in HSP70 and ischemic stroke.

Two thousand people in total took part in the study, but researchers were only able to identify different forms of the HSPA8 gene in men and volunteers who smoked, indicating a higher risk of stroke and longer recovery. However, scientists are confident that in the future, patients with ischemic strokes will be able to be treated instantly based on the type of heat shock protein.

It was before named Factor that increases the risk of stroke by 94%.
