A team of scientists from the Gaon Research Center in South Korea found a link between regular cheese consumption and improved cognitive functions in older adults. It turns out that Japanese men and women who include cheese in their diet have good memory and attentiveness. They are also well oriented in space. In this respect reports PsyPost.

1,516 Japanese men and women aged 65 and over participated in the study. First, researchers analyzed the participants’ diets to see which of them ate the most cheese. The subjects’ cognitive abilities were then assessed using the Mini-Mental State Exam (MMSE), a widely used 30-point test that includes tasks related to attention, memory, visuospatial skills, language, and writing. If the participants answered fewer than 23 out of 30 correctly, it indicated a decline in cognitive abilities characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease.

The results showed that subjects who added cheese to their diet were less likely to give fewer than 23 correct answers. Scientists also noted that the diet of cheese lovers is generally more correct and diverse.
