American scientists from Villanova University in Philadelphia studied the impact of sleep quality on the emotional state of people in relationships. To work published In the scientific journal Journal of Social and Personal Relationships (JSPR).

Experts conducted three tests to determine the relationship between sleep, anger, and perceived relationship quality. Approximately 700 people who were married or in long-term relationships participated in the experiments.

In a correlational study, psychologists found that insufficient sleep increased feelings of anger due to increased amygdala activation and/or decreased prefrontal cortex activation.

Scientists also found an inverse relationship; Problems in relationships reduced sleep quality, which again increased anger towards the partner.

Finally, the study authors experimentally manipulated emotion by asking participants to describe their reactions to events such as forgotten keys or accidentally spilled coffee. They found that people who slept poorly were more likely to become angry with their partners over minor annoyances, even though these events were not directly related to the relationship.

Psychologists note that many events in a relationship can cause sleep disruption, such as the birth of a child or increased stress. Experts recommend that you start improving the quality of your rest as soon as possible by reducing your caffeine intake and using various relaxation techniques. This will help you save your relationship with your partner.
