Morocco does not accept aid from Germany
The German Government has admitted that Moroccan authorities have not yet responded to an offer of assistance after Rabat accepted aid from four countries, including Spain, following the earthquake that shook the High Atlas region on Friday night.
On Saturday Berlin already offered to send rescue experts and dogs. This Monday, German Interior Ministry spokesman Maximilian Kall put a water purification plant on the table if Rabat agrees.
Avoiding discussing the political background of this case, a spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry said: “They have not accepted offers of assistance so far.” “In our case, this possibility can be ruled out,” he added, emphasizing that bilateral relations are now good after disagreements over Western Sahara caused tension in 2021.
The Moroccan Government only allowed aid from Spain, the United Kingdom, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, claiming that opening the door to more countries could lead to communication problems and thus be counterproductive.
