The North Atlantic Alliance is preparing to hold its largest military exercise since the Cold War. The newspaper reported this Finance Times (FT).
At least 41,000 military personnel and more than 50 ships will participate in the event called Steadfast Defender. During the maneuvers, the army will fly 500 to 700 sorties. According to the publication, it is planned to use real geographical data to create more realistic scenarios for the troops.
The purpose of the exercise is to prepare an attempt to repel “Russian aggression against one of the Alliance member countries.” NATO sees the maneuvers as an important part of showing the Russian side that “the alliance is ready for war.”
According to information obtained by FT, the exercises will be held in Germany, Poland and the Baltic countries in February and March 2024. In addition to the alliance member countries, Sweden will also participate in the drills.
