An unidentified person broke the statue of Princess Turandot in front of the Vakhtangov Theater in the center of Moscow. This was reported by Telegram channel plinth.
“An unidentified man on the Arbat climbed the statue of Princess Turandot and broke it,” the message said.
This is not the first time the monument has been damaged by vandals. In 2001, unidentified people severed the statue’s right arm. Later, the bronze statue depicting a character from Carlo Gozzi’s theatrical tale was restored.
The legendary fountain-monument was erected near the theater building in 1997 in honor of the 75th anniversary of the first performance of the play of the same name.
The team of the State Academic Theater named after Evgeniy Vakhtangov registered Centennial in November 2021. Its history began in the autumn of 1921 with the premiere of the play “The Miracle of St. Anthony”, and a year later the play “Princess Turandot” was released, which later became the hallmark of the theater.
Maxim Averin, formerly actor of the Theater of Satire said about the silent “Russian Othello” and the unlimited possibilities of body language.
