In Norway, 51-year-old local resident Erlend Bore came across rare 6th-century gold jewelry near the city of Stavanger. In this respect informs Phys.org, with reference to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
An amateur archaeologist told reporters that he recently bought a metal detector in order not to get bored during the walks suggested by the doctor. At one of the exits, the man wandered around the hills on the farm, and as he was about to go home, the device suddenly began beeping. According to him, he didn’t believe he had found the jewels at first and confused them with gold foiled chocolate coins.
After that, Erlend Bore called archaeologists from the Stavanger University Museum. The cache contained nine gold medallions, the same number of gold beads, and three rings. The total weight of the treasures dated to 500 B.C. was more than 100 grams.
According to Ole Madsen, head of the Stavanger University Archaeological Museum, the treasure was Norway’s find of the century. The last time such a discovery was made in the country was in the 19th century.
Both Bore and the landlord will receive the reward, although the amount has not yet been determined under Norwegian law.
