Major General Konstantin Ogienko, suspected of taking bribes and who until recently commanded the 1st Special Purpose Air and Missile Defense Army, was sent to a pre-trial detention centre. The newspaper reports “Kommersant”.

According to investigators, the Commander of the 4th Air Defense Division, Major General Dmitry Belyatsky, bribed Ogiyenko in the amount of 500 thousand rubles for the allocation of defense land to a civilian organization. In total, the generals were expected to receive 30 million rubles.

Under investigation, Byalyatsky partially pleaded guilty and petitioned for a preliminary hearing agreement on cooperation with him. Investigators learned from him that the last buyer of the money was Ogiyenko. For cooperating with the investigation, Byalyatsky was released from the pre-trial detention center and placed under house arrest. On the contrary, the court detained Ogiyenko, who did not admit his guilt, on the grounds that there was a danger of the general hiding the witnesses or putting pressure on the witnesses. He faces a prison sentence of 8 to 15 years.

The publication suggests that currently the Investigative Committee and the Ministry of Defense control the security of land belonging to the 1st Air Defense and Missile Defense Army, and some of them may be sold for development purposes. The army defending the capital region includes two air defense divisions, a missile defense division, a radio engineering unit for the detection of air targets from beyond the horizon, and other units.
