Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, virologist, scientists have identified a new sub-variant of the Pirola coronavirus, which will cause a new wave of the disease in Russia, along with the Eris variant, whose cases of infection have already been recorded in Russia. Sergei Netesov told socialbites.ca.
“So far they have released a completely new version, which is conditionally called “Pirola”. It contains many new mutations and appears to be the ancestor of a new family of subvariables after Omicron,” Netesov explained.
Known scientifically as the BA.2.86 variant, Pirola has now been found to have up to 36 new mutations and the new strain is expected to become dominant in Europe soon.
UK officials reported that the number of people who now test positive for coronavirus is almost twice as high as at the beginning of August. The UK Health Safety Agency has announced that it plans to continue testing for Covid. That’s why the UK Department of Health and Human Services (DHSC) and the UK Health Safety Agency announced the start of the fall vaccination programme.
Pirola could become the dominant option in the UK in the coming months, but not much is known yet as to whether it will lead to an increase in serious cases.
According to Academician Netesov, “Eris” and “Pirola” will lead to an increased incidence in Russia.
“The increase in coronavirus is usually caused by a new variant. If a person has not been sick for the past year and a half, he is definitely at risk. But the reason for the rise can already be two options: “Eris” and “Pirola”, – said Netesov.
