Researchers from the University of Arkansas have found that a man’s neck muscles can indicate his relationship with his partner and children. The results of the work of scientists are announced magazine Scandinavian Journal of Psychology.
The authors recruited 305 students who graded four male portraits with different neck muscles. Participants randomly viewed the images and rated them according to five parameters on a scale of 1 (not at all) to 7 (very much). These five parameters included the subject’s perception as a good warrior interested in long-term and short-term relationships, as well as effectiveness in protecting and raising offspring.
It turns out that the trapezius muscles are a sign of indifference to long-term relationships, on the contrary, they prefer short-term sexual relationships. It refers to the ability to protect offspring. On the other hand, men with smaller trapezoids were assessed to be more effective at parenting. According to experts, this may indicate that men’s motivation to care occurs at the expense of their motivation to protect.
