American scientists from the University of Pennsylvania found a correlation between human eye movements and the decision to spend money on something. To work published in the scientific journal Science Advances.
The experts conducted a series of laboratory experiments in which one group of participants bought lottery tickets and the other acted as the seller. Specialists observed the behavior of the volunteers during the procedures, recording the direction of their gaze and the reaction of the students.
The study showed that when a person decides to buy, their pupils dilate, revealing their intentions before they even act. The scientists also noted that the longer the subjects stare at what they’re interested in, the greater their willingness to reach agreement.
“When you look at something, it reinforces the importance of that object or information in the brain,” said Professor Michael Platt, author of the scientific study.
According to the researchers, their discovery could increase the efficiency of commerce as modern technology makes it easier to keep track of exactly where consumers are looking and for how long.
