The Government’s Legislative Commission did not support the bill to introduce labeling and accounting for pets. This has been reported TASS.

The related initiative was presented to the State Duma in November 2022 by the Bashkiria Congress of the State Assembly and the deputy of the lower house of parliament Rafael Mardanshin.

It was proposed to add innovations to the law on responsible treatment of pets. The bill’s explanatory note states that the law’s absence of requiring pets to be tagged and recorded hinders population monitoring and a culture of responsible pet care.

The government commission believes that the initiative does not comply with the “objective and subject …” of veterinary legislation, which provides for the regulation of scientific and practical human activities aimed at preventing and treating animal diseases.

In April last year, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Vladimir Burmatov introduced a proposal to amend the chamber’s agricultural committee on voluntary registration of pets
