Scientists create world’s first cholesterol-lowering drug

Scientists at Monash State University in Australia have created the world’s first oral drug to combat the genetically incurable form of cholesterol. In this respect informs “Reedus”.

It is stated that the active ingredient of the drug disrupts the interaction between apolipoprotein B100 molecules and glycoprotein by preventing the formation of cholesterol. A total of 114 people participated in the drug study, 25 of whom received a placebo.

As a result, the ‘bad cholesterol’ level dropped from baseline on the second day in the 89 people who took the drug, and after two weeks at a dose of 100 mg or higher, the decrease was approximately 65%.

Despite the success of the experiment, the scientists caution that the drug needs to be tested in larger studies. But the university stresses that it’s the first drug to reduce a hard-to-find form of cholesterol, and it only takes one pill to do it.
