Scientists from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia (USA) revealed that Mozart’s music acts as a pain reliever for newborn babies. The results of the research were published in the journal Nature Pediatric Research (Part of the nature group).

100 infants divided into two equal groups participated in the study. The first was given Mozart’s soothing instrumental lullaby 20 minutes before the bloodletting, the second was not. The lullaby was also heard during the heel prick and continued for about five minutes afterwards. Parents were not allowed to hug their children during the test.

Researchers assessed infant pain using facial expressions, crying, breathing patterns, and limb movements as indicators. The researchers who administered the injection did not know whether the music was playing because they wore noise-canceling headphones.

Analysis of the results showed that music relieved pain when injected into newborn babies. In the future, the authors plan to continue research into the impact of musical works on the human condition.
