A large-scale landslide occurred on Sunday, August 27, in Saint-Andre, France. The event was captured by an eyewitness.
The footage shows how part of the mountain collapses over the rail and highway, on which cars and trucks move. No casualties were reported in the incident.
La Maurienne writes on her Facebook page that the landslide occurred on the RD1006 highway in Saint-Andre (owner Meta is recognized as an extremist and banned in Russia). According to information from the State of Savoie, “several blocks of stone with a volume of about 700 m³ fell on a protective screen installed as a preventive measure by the road services of the district council, especially in this protected area.”
Many roads have been closed indefinitely, including the section of the A43 motorway between exits 29 and 30 in both directions (Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne and Le Fresnay). The Fréjus road tunnel is also closed to all vehicles over 3.5 tonnes in the France-Italy and Italy-France directions. The Maurienne rail service between France and Italy has been suspended indefinitely.
