Four members of a family shot to death in Honduras

A man and his three children, ages 9, 11 and 19. murdered shot and burned The National Police and its relatives filed a tip-off in the Intibucá region in western Honduras this Friday. The victims were killed and later cremated in the Yamaranguila municipality of Intibucá, according to a preliminary report by the Honduran Police.

Honduran Gilberto Bautista and his three children were allegedly attacked by a man named Selvin Sánchez while they were collecting arrowroot trees near their home in the village of Oloas. The other three victims were identified as 19-year-old Eduardo Josué, Allan Fernando (11) and Erlin Santiago Bautista (9).

“They were collecting ocote (wood) to sell in a corn field when someone attacked them with a gun and then burned them,” said the deceased’s wife and mother, María Gómez.

Gómez blamed Gilberto Bautista’s 42-year-old aunt as responsible for the massacre and pointed out that the incident could be a “land dispute”. “His aunt (Gilberto) was his enemy and ordered him killed for a land,” the woman said with tears in her eyes and a broken voice.

According to official sources, Honduras is among the countries with the highest rate of violence in the world, with an average of ten to fifteen murders per day, without war.
