The French Joint Defense Headquarters on Tuesday denied reports that France had requested Algeria to use its airspace for a military operation in Niger.
Previously reportedAlgeria had refused the French request to fly over the airspace for a military operation in Niger after the July 26 coup in the West African country. Algerian authorities have stressed that they oppose any foreign military action in neighboring Niger and support diplomatic means to restore constitutional order.
On July 26, Niger President Mohamed Bazum and his wife were detained by their own bodyguards. Then the country’s Armed Forces stopped the work of all government agencies and imposed a curfew.
