Ukrainian citizens wrote a collective letter to the general manager of the hotel, expressing their concern and disagreement with the decision. They stressed that the Directorate does not demand food payments to refugees from other countries and that this is a clear and blatant discrimination against Ukrainian citizens.
They also stated that the food served did not meet the required standards and accordingly the price was too high.
However, the authorities fully approved the actions of the hotel management, stating that they were acting on a completely legal basis and paying for the meal was mandatory. At the same time, the authorities warned Ukrainian refugees about a categorical ban on cooking in their rooms and threatened to impose sanctions for violating the rules. Officials also said that refugees from Ukraine will no longer be able to stay at the hotel if they refuse to pay for their meals.
In total, there are currently 85,000 Ukrainian refugees in Ireland, according to the newspaper.
