Researchers from the University of the East of Finland found that healthy eating, reading and sports improved thinking skills in younger students. The results of the work of scientists are presented magazine Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports.

Thinking skills play a big role in learning, academic success and solving everyday problems, so it’s important to support their development from childhood. About 400 children participated in the study. The scientists collected data on their diet, physical activity and mental abilities for two years.

The results showed that a diet low in red meat and high in low-fat dairy products had a positive effect on children’s mental development. Children who spent more time reading and exercising also showed better reasoning skills than their peers. Students who spent excessive time at the computer showed low reasoning abilities.
