Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, head of the defense committee of the German parliament (Bundestag), called for the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine as soon as possible. The deputy expressed it as follows: broadcasting TV programs ARD Morgenmagazine.
As the presenter of the program recalls, 52% of Germans oppose the supply of such shells to Kiev. This is evidenced by the results of a sociological survey conducted by the ARD TV channel.
In response, Strack-Zimmermann pointed out that it is the job of politicians to make decisions. At the same time, representatives of the authorities should explain to citizens why they took this or that action.
“If we explain what these weapons are for and we don’t have time to discuss it for months … I think there will be a majority that will understand that,” said the parliamentarian.
He added that the issue of sending Taurus to the conflict zone has already been resolved. However, Strack-Zimmermann cautioned that a consensus must be reached as soon as possible.
Before that, the agency ARD-DeutschlandTrend opened to the public Results of a survey of German residents in which 52% of respondents did not support the transfer of cruise missiles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). 36% of the respondents supported the implementation of the initiative.
At the same time, in the context of political parties, supporters of Alternative for Germany were the least approving of the program – 18%. Greens supporters, on the other hand, mostly agreed on the need to put Taurus on the battlefield – 69% versus 23%.
