Researchers from Simon Fraser University (Canada) have proven that social connections are more important to introverts than to extroverts. The results of the study are also presented magazine Health Psychology Open.

The authors used data from the 2021 Canadian Social Connectivity Survey conducted during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 949 participants were included in the analysis and completed a series of psychological interviews.

Researchers found that higher levels of subjective happiness were associated with higher social support from friends and family and less emotional and social loneliness.

In other words, participants who received more support from their friends felt less lonely and tended to report higher levels of happiness overall. The researchers noted that having a few close friends was associated with higher levels of happiness.

The authors also found that the positive effect of social support from friends and family was stronger in introverts.
