The majority of Russians (52%) enjoy watching memes online. This was demonstrated by a study conducted by the Mediacom.Expert PR agency using the online panel Surveyolog.ru, the results of which were reviewed by socialbites.ca.
According to the survey, 84% of users from all generations know what memes are. Of these, 71% use it in communication at least sometimes, and 19% create the memes themselves.
Half of the respondents (49%) perceive this type of content positively, and the vast majority (70%) of 18-30 year olds responded in this way. Also, 40% of respondents are neutral about memes in general and 11% are negative.
According to 67% of respondents, memes make informational materials, advertisements and brand communication more attractive and engaging to customers. And 60% see them as a promising way to communicate information.
Overall, 52% of respondents would like to see memes in communication with companies (68% of respondents aged 18-30).
The majority of respondents (66%) find positive emotions in memes, 16% receive up-to-date news and facts from them, and 15% believe they have deep meaning. However, some Internet users also find shortcomings in meme content: 26% see inconsistency in some images and text. According to 13%, memes can be annoying, 11% provocative and cruel, 10% offend people.
The vast majority of respondents (95%) said they generally understood the meaning of certain memes, and 51% said they almost always deciphered it.
57% love animal memes. Also, many people like memes about men and women (40%), famous people (39%), moments from movies and TV shows (38%). About a third (31%) like jokes about home and life, and 31% like jokes about family relationships. Memes about looks (29%), kids, everyday life, and cartoons (27% each) are less popular.
