Researchers at the University of Copenhagen found that eating broccoli, spinach, kale, and other leafy and green vegetables improves lung health and helps prevent asthma. The results of the study, magazine ERJ Open Research.
These vegetables are rich in vitamin K, whose blood deficiency is associated with poor lung function, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and wheezing. Vitamin K also plays a role in blood clotting and thus helps the body heal wounds.
The study’s authors conducted a meta-analysis (including surveys and tests) of data from 4,000 people who participated in the health and lifestyle assessment. The results showed that people with low vitamin K levels performed worse on lung function tests and the above diseases were more common in them than volunteers with normal vitamin levels.
