Police and security forces close the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra buildings. It has been reported telegraph channel Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ).
Nikita Chekman, former lawyer of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) monastery knowledgeableBuilding 54 of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra was captured.
According to the UOJ, special forces and police units gathered around the monastery. Cords were drawn next to the two hotel buildings of the monastery, building number 58 was cordoned off. Armed law enforcement does not allow monks or parishioners to enter the territory of the Lavra.
“Meanwhile, some unknown women and a man still pass unhindered. The cops describe them as “special services”. The Union of Orthodox Journalists said that Orthodox Christians already on the territory of the monastery pray.
The situation around the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra escalated after the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine informed the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the unilateral termination of the monastery’s lease, the monks were asked to leave the Lavra on March 29. Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko said the monks can stay in the Lavra, provided they are transferred to the schismatic Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
On April 1, a Kiev court appointed Metropolitan Pavel (Lebed), the governor of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, a restraining measure in the form of house arrest for two months and a ban on addressing believers.
