A schoolgirl from Novosibirsk, studying in the fourth grade, gave birth to an 11-year-old boy. Tatyana Anokhina, Deputy Minister of Health of the Novosibirsk Region, told MK-Novosibirsk that this case makes her the youngest mother in the region in the last ten years.
According to representatives of the department, every year in the Novosibirsk region underage girls give birth to children, but these cases are isolated. Usually around ten girls become mothers between the ages of 15 and 17.
Anokhina added that the fourth grader has a healthy child. There is no mention of the child’s father.
Doctors emphasize that the optimal age for the birth of a child is from 19 to 30 years, because during this period a woman’s body is most ready to produce a healthy child.
According to the World Health Organization, girls aged 10 to 19 years have a higher risk of developing eclampsia, followed by endometritis and systemic infections. Also, their children are more likely to have low birth weight, be born prematurely, and suffer from serious neonatal diseases.
