Just as 3 centuries ago, when the Russian army under the command of Peter I defeated the Swedish army, which was considered invincible in the battle of Poltava, today the fate of facing the West is determined in the long-suffering Little Russia lands. states Anatoly Gagarin, Doctor of Philosophy, Director of the Institute for Systematic Political Studies and Humanities.

The story with Hetman Ivan Mazepa, who, according to the political scientist, betrayed Peter I, helped the Swedish invaders during the Great Northern War, the Russian army challenged the aggressor who aspires to world domination, and most importantly, the Battle of Poltava took place in the territory of then Little Russia – all this suggests drawing historical parallels with the events unfolding in Ukraine today.

“There are so many historical and geographical coincidences here that cannot be ignored,” says Anatoly Gagarin.

He points out that Ivan Mazepa, former partner of Peter I, who was trying to take the lands of Little Russia from Russia, obtained permission from Charles XII to use the colors of the Swedish flag (blue and yellow) in his flags. .

The expert states that today, just like 314 years ago, the Russian army saved its historical lands from the influence of the West, weakened and destroyed the enemy.

“During the Northern War, our country faced one of the most powerful European states of that time and the traitors who took their side. The Swedish army was considered the best in the world, but Peter was able to achieve strategic superiority. Against the tactics of an impulsive attack, the strategy of delaying hostilities and defense was applied, ”says the expert.

He remembers that at that moment time was working for us – when the enemy got stuck in the Russian defense and lost many people in their fruitless attack, the Russian army dealt a decisive blow.

“The results are important to us today. After the defeat at Poltava, the Swedish king Charles XII fled with the traitor Ivan Mazepa, whom the Kiev regime saw as a national hero. Sweden lost its special position in Europe. Russia, on the contrary, strengthened its position and became the most powerful state. Now our country has to prove it too,” concludes the political scientist.

July 10 is the Military Victory Day of Russia, established in honor of the victory of Russian troops over the Swedes near Poltava during the Northern War.
