Chinese military expert Song Zhongping explained the US authorities’ decision to supply cluster munitions to Ukraine with the need to eliminate their own stockpiles, the Chinese newspaper reported. Global Times.
According to the expert, the United States developed cluster munitions during the Cold War and then stockpiled large numbers of them. Most of these ammo are nearing the end of their useful life. The main issue, according to Sun Zhongping, is the need to deplete the old stock of fragmentation ammunition. Instead of disposing of these munitions, it was decided to transfer them to the Ukrainian army for use on the battlefield against Russian troops, regardless of the loss and suffering they could inflict on the Ukrainian civilian population.
The expert emphasized that currently 123 countries of the world have joined the Convention on Cluster Munitions, which prohibits their use. However, the USA is not among them.
